WHAT A HACKATHON IS?
A hackathon is a platform where people with computer science, design and other domain knowledge meet and work together intensively to produce a working software/hardware prototype that solves a real-world problem. A hackathon typically lasts for 24 to 54 hours and consists of a final presentation session.
HOW HACKATHON WORKS
During the 24 hours, free meals, electrical outlet, and wireless Internet access will be provided on-site. Although intensive design process and coding will take place in the 24 hours, we will help you feel as comfortable as possible!
MORE THAN JUST CODING
Do you have a bright idea in mind for a long time but have not had the opportunity to realize it? Or, you want to apply what you have learned in technology, business and design to solve a bigger, real-world problem? This is what PolyHack is all about! Whether you are a programmer, designer, business major or PolyU students from other disciplines who have an idea but do not have what it takes to realize your dream, PolyHack is the place for you. In PolyHack you will meet people with various talents, and through a 24-hour period you will develop a product with other students. This is the opportunity to make your dreams come true!
HAVEN'T GOT AN IDEA?
No worries! Join our briefing session, workshops and make friends and spark ideas. By the end of the event, a product showcase will be held where everybody can play with everybody’s product. Remember, your deliverable must be workable to some degree!

PolyHack is a student driven hackathon organized by the Department of Computing, supported by the Student Union. Through cross discipline cooperation, it motivates students to solve real-world problems with technology. PolyHack consists of a series of intensive workshop and a final 24-hour period for them to develop their working prototype. A product showcase and presentation session will be organized to give participants the opportunity to show and present their ideas. The themes of the year are “Education for all” and “Health matters”. It provides an opportunity for designers, programmers and others to work together and experience a typical software development cycle. It aims to give them real world problem solving and development experience and promote innovation.
